Atapattu and Liddy Grab Second-Place Finishes Lamborghini Super Trofeo ProAm at Laguna Seca

Monrovia, California (Tuesday, September 17, 2019) – US RaceTronics had much to celebrate Sunday morning at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Jacob Eidson and Damon Ockey clinched the North American ProAm title with a win in the No. 09 Lamborghini of Vancouver. Meanwhile, Steven Aghakhani drove an amazing race to finish second in the AM class, battling first-place finisher James Sofronas for the majority of the race. Ron Atapattu and Patrick Liddy made some great passes to make their way back to the second step of the ProAm podium just behind Eidson and Ockey.

Jacob Eidson started Sunday’s race from P2 overall and first in class and never looked back. The young American driver held off overall points leader Corey Lewis until just before the pit-window opened. Lewis and Daly ducked in early, but Eidson stayed out late into the window, building a huge gap over the second-place ProAm team before handing the car over to Ockey from the race lead. Ockey cycled back out fifth overall and P1 in class driving a solid stint on worn tires. He wisely chose to let the AM battle between Sofronas and Aghakhani through on lap 28, ultimately bringing the No. 09 Lamborghini of Vancouver home for its ninth win of the season and the North American ProAm championship.

Steven Aghakhani had an amazing race on Sunday in the No. 6 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills. The 16-year-old rookie driver battled veteran James Sofronas throughout the race, pushing the more experienced driver in hopes getting his fourth win of the season. Sofronas didn’t make any mistakes and Aghakhani wasn’t able to get past him, but the young Southern California driver did earn his second consecutive second-place podium finish of the weekend and has earned podium finishes in all eight races that he’s competed in this season. He currently sits just 13 points behind AM leader McKay Snow with two fewer races under his belt.

Ron Atapattu and Patrick Liddy made their way back to the podium on Sunday with a ninth-place overall and second-place ProAm finish. The duo started toward the back of the field, but Atapattu was able to move up three positions before handing the No. 24 Elephantea Lamborghini of La Jolla over to co-driver Liddy who wasted no time before making passes of his own. Liddy inherited a great car and was able to put down the fastest lap of the second-half of the race on his way to the pairs fourth second-place finish since teaming up in Race 2 at Road America.

The team headed back to their shop at Buttonwillow Raceway to finish the final preparations for next months World Finals in Jerez, Spain. The cars will be on their way to Charleston, SC in just a few days and will be back with the team in Spain for the final two North American rounds and the World Finals the week of October 21st through October 27th.

Ron Atapattu – “It was a nice clean race. From what happened yesterday to today, it was a remarkable change. The car ran perfect; we had a lot of grip and were able to pass people. I think a few more laps and we could have been on top of the podium. That was great, fun racing.”

Patrick Liddy – “We had an awesome race today. Ron gapped William Hubble, so we were P3 in class when he came in. I was able to pass quite a few cars and we put in the fastest lap of the entire second session overall. So, really happy with our pace today and really happy with our P2 finish. We got him right at the end.”
