Ron Atapattu Eager for Watkins Glen IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Race

Miami, Fla., June 25…Floridian Ron Atapattu is eager to get back on the racetrack for the IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series race June 27-29 at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y.

The second round of the six-venue, 12-race Lamborghini series joins other IMSA headliners, WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, MICHELIN Pilot Challenge and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge at the 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course over the June 27-30 weekend.

Ron Atapattu, the Founder and President of Overseas Cargo, Inc. (ShipOCI.com), returned to professional racing in April at the Barber Motorsport Park Lamborghini opener with his exciting platform to market his elephantea, a premium tea company, and elephant conservation awareness programs through his eTeaRacing effort.

Atapattu, who previously raced globally a Lamborghini Diablo in the 1990s, now competes in the No. 24 elephantea/ShipOCI Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO. His car is prepared and managed by US Racetronics, based in Monrovia, Calif.

“It’s been exciting to get back to racing, especially in a Lamborghini once again,” said Atapattu, of Miami, Fla. “We’ve had a long break since the first race of the season in April until now so I’m ready to get racing again. We did a test last month at The Glen, but it was quite rainy and cold that day, so we didn’t get as much time on track as we’d have hoped, but I did get to familiarize myself with the circuit again.”

In the series opener in Alabama, Atapattu finished in fifth place on Saturday and sixth place on Sunday in the LM Cup class in the doubleheader race weekend. He focused his efforts on getting comfortable in the powerful 5.2-liter aspirated V10 Huracan EVO with a six-speed sequential gearbox and rear wheel drive.
Television coverage of the race will feature a taped-delay highlight program on NBCSN on Wednesday, July 10 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Eastern time.

The 2019 IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series schedule includes: Watkins Glen International (N.Y.), June 28-29; Road America (Wisc.), August 3-4; VIRginia International Raceway, (Va.), August 24-25; Laguna Seca (Calif.), September 14-15; and Jerez de la Frontera in Spain (October 25-27).
